Odran and Evelyn

Odran is wilting
Evelyn is blue

Maybe they’re ill
Maybe just on the lip of evolution
Worn thin from impatience
I wonder if even they know

Perhaps it’s the time
That there 7 billion plus
Pulled this way and that
Filled with inorganic weight
Like spinning plates
With precipice suspicions
Of unaccountable gridlocked sour trick

In chemical dreams
Teeth fall from mouths
And when they wake
Stuffy 4am
They cannot remember where they are
Where their tracks began
What brought them here
Oh, I see their baggy eyes

Sometimes they asks themselves things
The product of liberal room and board
The entrapped enlightenment of the well-adjusted
Clutching for straws
Trying to dig out of that hue
They asks: What am I up to?
Why do I do what I do?

Maybe they can find some higher source
Some higher source to make things sing

--Evelyn--

Today Evelyn rolls over
Playing some cosmic script
Squints at aqua mirror
Why am I wilting?
She asks her face
Why is it like this?

A sneeze escapes her body

She opens the curtains
Greets a foggy reflection
Looks longingly at warm sheets
Throws herself to the game
Like a ball

Such a put together lady
Eve stretches and showers
Places freshly washed clothes atop a freshly washed body
Makes oatmeal and coffee
Sits herself down at the kitchen table
A firm thing
Ordered, assembled smartly by her lonesome

With a pad of computer paper
Eve bullet points her blueness
Resolves to get underneath the thing

Five points about her childhood
Four about aimlessness
Three about unplumbed phobias

Maybe I need to risk my neck
Live rule-free in the city park
Get out of this suffocation, she thinks

When it is time to go to work,
Evelyn slips on new pair of socks
They feel luxurious on her feet
Makes things sing

At the corner
She turns left instead of right

--Odran--

After Work
Odran roams the indigo department and drug stores
Stares at fancy packages
Walks down nicely polished floors
The hallmark of thousands of years of civilization

At Navy Drugs he checks the backs of vitamin containers
I’ll eat and dress better, he thinks
Take fish oil and garlic
Practice Zazen
Make goals everyday

A clerks walks by
Black vest over a blue sweatshirt
Does the gentleman need assistance?
How can you tell?
Teenage shrug
Teenage sad smile

Magnesium is two for one, Sir
It’s good for bones and things
Ah structure, says Odran

In his lumpy bed
Odran thinks and squirms
Too cold
Too warm
Too tired
Too much shit to do

He gets up
Drinks a glass of water
On a pad of paper by the refrigerator
He writes down some things for tomorrow
Office things
Good son, good brother things

Staring out the window at the street light
Odran tries to remember a saying

When he walks back to bed
A wonderful idea hits him
He smiles like a madman

With new socks on his feet
Odran buys chalk at the grocery store
When he get to the corner
He turns left in stead of right

Whimsy

We
bulky atoms and void
who pine
eternally
who take care
and stock
hungry to affirm
the whole

We
squishy water pockets
riders
at a million miles an hour
hanging out
vulnerable
with wild eyes
thrown into
spinning stories
stitched with bruise
and other lessons

I wouldn't change a thing

Angelic

Warm my speech
Brighten that secret resolve
Clean away the distraction of youth
With you
Not trapped up
Not the gloss of new clothes
Or the stalemate of compromise

I’ll make us food
Cut out the light
Turn high the wall heater
Stare into your eyes
Kiss your scars

That Violent Balance: a poem

I want to be flying
Absolutely at the front of the game
Developing the damned thing myself
Fuck the benefit
I want to feel it
Through the veins
When I breathe it’ll be there
At-hand
Berdyaev and Colin Wilson
Gurdjieff and the real Zhuangzi.
Gotta fly gotta fly gotta fly.
Far beyond the bullshit:
That entrapped enlightenment prescribed by the smart, well-adjusted, fucks within the institution.
Gotta fly gotta fly gotta fly
And out there
On the edge of the thing
All warm and soft with kerosene
I’ll breath it in
Sick with health
Melting in Violent Balance

The Pulse Somewhere Hidden, a poem

Lonesome hike, that dragging, sagging will
And on and on into that ubiquitous Form
That stabs at warm, soft, stories alive
That quiets the Pulse somewhere hidden
That makes small the world

Consider: what is the greatest error?
Is it going on without Passion?
Being swayed to pose and pattern Form?
Lacking suspicion when forlorn?
Perpetuating mind and body to perpetuate mind and body?

Where we can we ought to be honest:
Man is no integral “I”
But focused horses migrating focused directions
Asleep and shackled in prison
Blood a dismal yellow

Isn't it strange?
That Great Evolutionary Pull
That drive toward ease
That brought single-cells toward surplus and city
Should now leave us neurotic and dis-eased

Observe the endless Pull
To tame the river, beast, seed
To eclipse the dirt, and branch
To harness the sun and wind
And still those veins pull to lead

I doubt that there is a single germ, which doesn’t feel it
The pulse to overcome and ascend
And yet how peculiar
Man situates his home and his hobbies
Situates to eat and groom and Sleep

He drives on, eyelids drooping
Steers from Formal hoop to hoop
Certified in poses, etiquette, and casual meek
This expansive menagerie doesn’t come cheep
Panic and enslave, perpetuate them bodies and minds

Grand Boredom, Confusion, and Waste
Acquaintances tired and stressed
Unconnected to a clear aim
We float from Form to Form
Suspicious that the effort is vain

Come, lets burn them tracks away
Pull up and befriend our poor inner arguments
We could migrate or stay
Dispense with the Formal Faults
Only Do what we mean, Be what we deem

Come, Divest with the political
Supercede the material
And from a leisurely gate
Stroll down the road
All quiet and sacred

Have you not glimmered whilst migrating north, south, east, west?
I remember the timeless
Into that ‘whatever is the case’
Outside of the City, State, World
Fresh with Vitality, Strength, Self-evidence

And from this I know that I ought to leave
Start from scratch.
From hand to mouth
Directly from the Source
Back to that vital Pulse somewhere hidden

To Depart, get off down that track to the reservoir
Voluntariness is my religion
If there are Formal Faults
A squashing of Pulsing will
To examine slowly, honestly, deliberate

To justify self-evidently
To trim and discipline
Quiet and peel away
From the ever distracting
Beyond that super secret-entropy

And on and on down that insightful exhaustion
I’ll envelop with the warmth and mutual disclosure
Bear the Cold Suffocating Frustrated Hard
Listen for the Pulse ringing in my ears
An alarm from deep sleep
